Creativity, teamwork and regional transformation
The Hochschulalianz Ruhr is a joint initiative of the Bochum University of Applied Sciences, the Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and the Westfälische Hochschule.
It sees itself as a source of impetus for the sustainable transformation of the Ruhr region. The goal is the development and transfer of practical, post-fossil and networked energy and mobility solutions.
In a pioneering and innovative master's degree program, students in an innovation ecosystem should work together with municipalities, companies and associations on current challenges and thus help shape the future of the region.

Transformation — Thema
Sistemas automatizados
Automated Systems provides knowledge about intelligent machines, robotics and AI-based controls. Students develop, simulate and integrate autonomous systems that combine mechanical, electrical and digital components into high-performance overall systems.
"We see ourselves as a space for experimentation for new formats in teaching, research and transfer."
Professor Andreas Wytzisk-Arens
Präsident der Hochschule Bochum
Studium — International
Master
The idea: an international master's degree program that is unique in Germany, which not only helps shape the future of engineering, but also combines innovative ways of thinking, interdisciplinary approaches and a global perspective. This master's degree program, in the heart of the Ruhr metropolis, is designed to train engineers who master the technological challenges of tomorrow with creativity, teamwork and expertise.
Alles wie immer

Problem Based Learning
In a world increasingly shaped by technological innovations and transformations, engineering needs a new way of thinking that goes beyond traditional teaching methods. The Hochschulallianz Ruhr Master's degree program will be more than just another course of study - it is an invitation to shape the future. Through the interdisciplinary approach that combines technological innovation, management and global networking, this degree program will prepare its students to act in the globalized industry of tomorrow. The course of study is currently under development.
A look into the Zukunft
1. – 3. Semester
Praxis
50%
The practical part is significantly characterized by Problem-Based Learning (PBL). PBL is an innovative teaching method in which students learn by solving real, complex problems. Students work in groups on practical questions, develop solutions and actively apply their knowledge. This method promotes critical thinking, teamwork and independent learning by strongly orienting the learning process to practical challenges. PBL prepares students optimally for the requirements of professional practice.
Theorie
50%
In the theoretical part, technical and methodological knowledge is mainly imparted through asynchronous digital teaching and virtual reality. Students have the flexibility to work on learning content at any time and regardless of location, while interactive VR applications offer practical experiences. This modern combination promotes a deep understanding of complex topics and enables a direct, immersive application of what has been learned, which optimally prepares students for the challenges of the future.
4. Semester
Abschluss
In the 4th Semester students should be able to choose between a classic master's thesis and a practice-oriented final project. In this way, theoretical findings are continuously combined with concrete, real challenges, which puts the transfer of knowledge into practice in the foreground - a decisive impulse for professional development and future career opportunities.
